Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is finally here, and it’s absolutely glorious.

Directed by del Toro and stop-motion expert Mark Gustafson, Pinocchio reinvents the classic tale of a young puppet dreaming of bigger things through the novel character designs, jaw-dropping animation, and an abundance of fantastical, fairy tale world-building expected from someone like del Toro. The trailer is a beautiful work of art, brimming with found family, spirited adventure, fearless love, and a little wooden boy at the heart of it all.

Alongside Gregory Mann as our puppet protagonist, Pinocchio’s star-studded cast also includes Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Cate Blanchett, Finn Wolfhard, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton.

The film is set to release on Netflix and in theaters on Dec. 9.
